2004
Specialist Instruments Limited (SIL) was founded by Glynne Rees, offering consultation and design services for engine-driven machines, including pumps and compressors.
2005
- Partnered with a major fire pump OEM. A tailor-made control system was developed and manufactured.
- SIL collaborated with the world’s largest battery manufacturer developing a novel instrument embedded in batteries, displaying their remaining useful life.
2007
- Continued growth prompted a move to new premises.
- The customer base expanded into agricultural pump controls and compressor controls for oil and gas exploration.
- The SIL 900 module was developed, assisting users in transitioning to new engine technology.
2008
The SIL990 Series Controllers revolutionised agricultural slurry spreading by introducing robust radio remote control for engines and pumps. This innovation improved productivity and reduced costs by enabling unattended pump operation from several kilometres away.
2009
The SIL990 Irrigation Controller was launched, introducing ‘Linefill,’ a new pump control method that protects pipes during startup.
2011
Expanded in-house manufacturing facilities and partnered with external subcontractors to meet growing product demand.
2013
With the introduction of electronic Tier 3 and 4 low-emission engines with CANBUS data communication, SIL led the way in providing simplified control systems for the pump and compressor industries.
2014
SIL became an approved systems integrator for IFM.
2016
SIL developed the Vision IV Series Controllers, featuring colour screens and enhanced support for electronic engines.
2017
Neil Jones, a long-standing employee, became Operations Director.
2018
SIL introduced new technology to the de-watering pump market.
2020
- SIL became an approved systems integrator for Deep Sea Electronics (DSE) DSEControl range.
- Several large OEMs were supported through the transition to Stage V engines.
- SIL secured significant new business with industrial pump house companies.
2022
SIL began in-house development of the radio repeater, marking a key milestone in the project timeline.
2024
SIL celebrated 20 years in business.
Introduced:
- Vision IIIi: Targeted at replacing obsolete control panels for irrigation pump sets.
- Vision Vi: Designed to allow irrigation OEMs to meet the needs of Stage V standards for off-highway machinery.
- Vision Vs: Enables users to control multiple pumps simultaneously from a single screen.
2025
SIL launched the next generation of the Vision range at LAMMA 25.
Introduced:
- Vision IVs Radio Repeater: Improved range for long pump runs and addressed terrain-related blackspots.
